The Grimaldi dynasty has ruled Monaco since 1297.

The sovereign principality is bordered by France to the east and Italy to the west, with the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The city of Monte Carlo lies on the Baie de Fontvieille (Fontvieille Bay).

Monte-Carlo has "an attractive reputation for the high-rollers and super-rich." It hosts the annual Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most expensive and exclusive car races in the world.

The Casino de Monte-Carlo is a casino and hotel complex which was founded by Prince Charles III in 1863. The city is known as the "Monaco of yesteryear" in contrast to the more modern Monaco that has grown up elsewhere on the island, including La Condamine, the business district and home to the Harbour.

Monte-Carlo hosts many famous events like the Monte Carlo Rally (which was started in 1911 as the first rally in the world) and the tennis event of the Monte-Carlo Masters. The annual Monaco Film Festival also takes place there.

Other major events include the formula.html">Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious races in the F1 calendar; the E-Prix for Formula E electric cars, and the Super Yacht Show which are held nearby in La Condamine, the marina of Fontvieille is also home to a few super-yachts

There is a casino on the French side in Fréjus called Casino Barrière de Fréjus.

The Grimaldi Forum Monaco is an exhibition and conference center located near the Mediterranean Sea, featuring modern architecture. It was built for events like conferences and exhibitions.
